Sorbet or Granita Skies

Sorbet or granita skies vanish behind the long range of mountains.

Neighborhood dogs talk to one another.

The clouds start to reflect lavender as they conclude the days’ light.

My favorite time. Anywhere in the world.

A hose swishes out cold water onto the crisp and dry country grass.

The last streaks of sunset wane in electric pink.

Wind chimes barely echo in pings and the leaves slightly sway and swivel.

Come Up For Air

Disheveled, weathered furniture sits stagnant inside the brick house with no glass left.  The windows are long gone, the door blown open.  Overgrown weeds attempt to consume the facade.  Surrounding the house is the bright meadow that once offered promises of safety and hope.  It’s expansive, open, light and breezy.  Inside, the wind glides over the curves and corners, and out the other side.  The floors are raw and bleached like beach wood.  In the tiny kitchen, a broken wine glass lay scattered on the floor.  Beneath it, a stark crimson stain taints the white wood floor.

Sebastian

My champagne shimmers and gleams in the sunlight as it swishes around the thin glass. My eyes focus in the distance on Sebastian, just getting out of the pool. He walks over and flops down onto the bottom of my chaise. Strands of espresso brown hair stick to his face and beads of water weigh down his eyelashes as he gazes into the blue sky.

“I can’t wait for sunset Mom!” He’s squinting his vibrant turquoise eyes, seeing the vast, turbulent ocean surrounding us as a rendering of magic, of endless opportunity; as he should.

Italy, Sicily - Egadi Islands, Island Of Prento, Sea View

From 3 years in the future …

Dipping my toes into my serene pool in the backyard. I just had it done, and it looks perfect with turquoise tile at the bottom, and frosty white lights at night. It is the best place to see the view of the ocean right here. I’m draped on the steps by the infinity edge, and see the stark white of the rocks absorb the waves as they splash the glass fence around our yard. The moonlight illuminates the ripples in the vast water below as it shines on the silver specks in the paint of the steps. (To Be Continued..)
